Cabin
2026
Forest Cabin S is located within a dense woodland landscape near Voss, where the architecture is conceived as a quiet and minimal intervention. The project provides a retreat from urban life, emphasizing stillness, simplicity, and proximity to nature. Its compact form is carefully positioned among the trees, minimizing disruption while maximizing spatial quality. Rather than competing with its surroundings, the cabin allows the forest to remain the dominant presence.

The concept is based on reduction—both in scale and expression. The cabin distills living down to essential elements, focusing on proportion, light, and material. Openings are precisely framed to capture specific views, turning the surrounding landscape into an integral part of the interior experience. The architecture prioritizes atmosphere over complexity, creating a space that supports reflection and calm.

Despite its small footprint, the cabin offers a rich spatial experience through careful organization and vertical layering. A central living space connects to sleeping and service areas, while large windows establish a constant visual connection to the forest. Light filters through the trees, creating subtle variations throughout the day. The interior feels both sheltered and open, balancing intimacy with openness.

Timber is used as both structure and finish, creating a cohesive and warm interior environment. Surfaces are left untreated, allowing them to age naturally over time. Joints and details are simple and precise, emphasizing craftsmanship without unnecessary complexity. The material palette reinforces the cabin’s connection to its natural surroundings.
The cabin’s small footprint minimizes environmental impact, while its timber construction supports renewable material use. Passive strategies such as insulation, orientation, and natural ventilation reduce energy demand. The project is designed to coexist gently with the forest, preserving the site while enhancing the experience of nature.
