Collective Housing
2026
Located within a dense residential district of Zurich, Linden Courtyard Housing rethinks collective living through a carefully composed urban block. The project introduces a central courtyard as a shared green space, offering light, air, and a sense of community. The building volume responds to surrounding scales while maintaining a distinct architectural identity. Its presence is defined by rhythm, proportion, and a balanced relationship between public and private realms.

The design is based on the idea of layered living—where boundaries between private and communal spaces are softened rather than strictly divided. The courtyard becomes the spatial and social core, around which apartments are organized. Circulation galleries and semi-private thresholds encourage interaction while maintaining privacy. The architecture negotiates density without compromising quality of life.

Apartments are designed with dual orientations, allowing light to enter from both street and courtyard sides. Circulation spaces are open and naturally ventilated, fostering a sense of openness. The courtyard acts as an extension of living space, visually connecting residents. The spatial experience balances intimacy with collective presence.

The façade combines light-toned brick with prefabricated concrete elements, creating texture and depth. Interiors use oak flooring, plaster walls, and simple detailing. Balconies and railings are integrated seamlessly into the façade rhythm. The material palette emphasizes durability and subtle variation.
The project promotes sustainable urban living through density, shared resources, and green space integration. Passive strategies include cross ventilation and solar shading. The courtyard enhances microclimate and biodiversity. The building contributes positively to its neighborhood fabric.
